urriculum:

Our curriculum is built to engage learners in the core subjects—Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Literacy, ranging from decoding skills through content reading, is taught through Reading Groups and Writer’s Workshops. In Math, teachers employ whole and small group instruction, learning stations, and independent practice of skills at a level appropriate for the student. Science and Social Studies units incorporate hands-on experiments and projects to help children gain a deeper understanding of the world and people around them. In addition, students participate in weekly art, music, and physical education resource classes.

Marcie Neubecker - Level 2 Teacher

Originally from Detroit, Marcie’s family relocated to the islands to escape the cold winters when she was in elementary school. Marcie now lives in Waimea with her family. Her six-year-old son, Ethan, keeps her very busy. When she has time, Marcie enjoys paddling, reading, going to the beach, and riding bikes.

Marcie attended the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and earned a B.A. in Communications and Speech, with a focus on conflict resolution and mediation. A summer job as a summer camp instructor at a dolphin facility quickly changed her direction and provided her with a new passion for teaching. For almost 10 years, Marcie worked at Dolphin Quest and helped to establish the on-site and outreach programs. Her main focus was to develop hands-on marine science curriculum for grades K-6. While teaching at Waimea Country School, Marcie earned her Masters in Elementary Education in 2007.
