 2011/2012 BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Waimea Country School is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. A Board of Trustees comprised of community volunteers governs the School. Board members are knowledgeable about the local community and help develop external sources of support for the school while encouraging collaborative partnerships with other community leaders and organizations.

President

Felicity Johnson, Founding Head, Hualalai Academy (ret.)

Born in Cambridge, England, Felicity Johnson received a BA with Honors in the Practice of Education and an MA in Education from the University of London Institute of Education and I.A.P.S. from Oxford University. She moved to San Francisco in 1980 and was head of the upper school at Cathedral School for Boys. She was then hired by Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) to head the Lower Campuses in Waimea and Kona in 1991. She left in 1996 to found Hualalai Academy, a K-12 private school in Kona. Felicity retired from the school in 2009 and currently runs her own business, Suite Possibilities, in Kona. Apart from education, her passion is theater, and she serves on the boards of Aloha Performing Arts Company (APAC) and Waimea Community Theater (WCT). Felicity has been on the WCS Board since 2005 and is currently serving as President.

Vice President

Nancy Perry, Educator, Waikoloa Elementary School (ret.)

Nancy has been a dynamic and respected educator of Hawaii’s children since her arrival in the islands in 1972. She is a graduate of Washington State University and Sonoma State University and is licensed to teach general education and special education in both private and public schools in the State. Nancy moved to Hawaii Island in 1994 and joined the Waimea Country School Board of Trustees in 2001. She is currently Vice President, chair of the Financial Aid committee and Board liaison to the faculty. Nancy’s passion is to help students succeed, and she teaches at the school twice a week as a volunteer.

Secretary

Kelly Barrick, Homemaker

Kelly is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of the University of Colorado-Boulder. She is fluent in English, French and German; is a graduate of the Denver Paralegal Institute; has a Hawaii real estate broker's license; and a Hawaii Department of Education substitute teaching certificate. She has been living on the Big Island since 1992. Kelly’s son has attended Waimea Country School since Kindergarten. Kelly spent two years serving as the President of the Parent Association before joining the Board of Trustees in 2011. In addition to serving as the Board Secretary, Kelly is the Chair of the Silent Auction Fundraising Committee. Kelly is an active member of the Waimea Community, earning an Outstanding Volunteer Service award in 2006. She is a senior mediator with West Hawaii Mediation Services, a volunteer usher at Kahilu Theatre, and an amateur thespian with Waimea Community Theater.

Treasurer

Randy Campbell, Support Astronomer, W. M. Keck Observatory

Randy is an astronomer with the W. M. Keck Observatory which operates the two largest telescopes in the world atop Mauna Kea. He has a master’s degree in astronomy from San Diego State University with an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering. His research involves the study of variable stars known as novae. Randy, his wife, Joan, and their two daughters, both graduates of the WCS K-6 program, have been connected to Waimea Country School since 1997, and Randy has served on the Board of Trustees since 1998. He is currently the Board Treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee. As a strong advocate of quality education and independent schools, Randy is a stellar resource for the Country School and for our community.

 
Members   

Leslie O'Hanlon, Educator

Leslie has been a licensed elementary and middle school teacher in public and private schools in California and New Mexico. She is a 1996 graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., and earned her Masters in Education from the University of Missouri in 2010. Before becoming a teacher, Leslie worked as a newspaper reporter, freelance magazine writer and public information officer for the University of California, San Francisco. Before moving to Hawaii with her husband and three sons in early 2011, she taught 6th grade Language Arts at Albuquerque Academy. Her oldest son is currently a WCS student.
